Why Build Green
What is Green Building?
Homes are considered green when they go beyond what the local building codes require to include features that dramatically reduce the use of energy and water while increasing the livability of the house due to better air quality. Depending on whose statistics you look at, buildings account for 40 to 50 percent of the energy usage in our country. How you design and build your next home can dramatically reduce those figures. Green building also means using materials that are recycled, sustainably harvested or produced or harvested locally.
Why Should I Build a Green Home?
Building green means making wiser choices about how we build and what products we use. Wisdom never goes out of style. By making choices that use less energy or release fewer harmful gases into our homes and the environment, we save energy, money and our long term health. We have proven this to ourselves by moving from a conventionally built home to one built by ourselves using green technologies and eliminating our daughter's need for constant asthma inhalers.
